1/12 SCALE WORKING MODEL 1890s ENGINE LATHE
You read that right! This little beauty actually performs work like its fullsize counterpart! This lathe is a 1/12 scale replica, similar to figure 806 of the Charles A. Strelinger Company 16-inch lathe found on page 212 of their 1895 catalog. The lathe measures 6-1/2 in length and 4-1/2 in height.
Just think of it! An actual working lathe that you have built! Your friends will be awestruck! Your wife will be glad to have you out of her hair for a few hours! And all the children who see it will be delighted! Team this lathe up with our drill press and our line shaft accessories and you will have the beginning of your own model machine shop. Line shaft bearing hangers, pulleys and shaft are available from our Line Shaft accessories page.
Kit comes complete with 19 easy machining aluminum castings, all required hardware, material, bar stock, gear stock and complete working drawings. Kit includes an extra cone pulley for a jack shaft and material for a chuck. Machining and assembly required.

This is my first kit like this. It is a challenge for sure Using my lathe and mill When done it will be fine piece to show off. Mill or shaper or drill press next?

I found an easier way to make the 4 jaw chuck...without special cutters

Very satisfying project. It is actually capable to remove metal. The 4 Jaws chuck is a beauty. You may have to make a couple of special cutters for the chuck slots and the dovetail.
